The production of this limited series is now ended, and no more orders will be taken for the SALVATORE ACCARDO BY MUSAFIA. Some dealers may however still have examples available in stock. This model will never be reproduced and the templates have been destroyed making replication impossible, thus assuring it's future value and it's place in the history of artisan case making.

In 2003, world-famous Italian concert artist Salvatore Accardo, a longtime Musafia customer, asked Mr. Musafia for a new "lightweight, elegant case" that would fit and protect both his Stradivari and his slightly over-sized Maggini. Over three years the design was developed and several prototypes were made before the effort culminated in the case illustrated above. Mr. Accardo liked the case so much that he allowed us to use his name on it for the benefit of charity.

Limited to a run of only 250 certified examples, the SALVATORE ACCARDO BY MUSAFIA case is unique in many ways, starting from the asymmetric design to maximize space and the distinctive curved structural partition (with bolted-through steel L-reinforcements) which unites elegance to rigidity, to the specally-milled satin which reproduces the inlay design of the 1677 Stradivari "Sunrise" (on a original scan furnished by the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC). The interior is lined in glove-quality leather with silk velvet padding, and the lid is graced by two strips of hand-polished cherrywood burlwood, finished with six coats of traditional gumlack prepared in the workshop.

 DESIGN

An aesthetic triumph of leather, satin, velvet and burlwood make this case unique. Offset instrument placement with strategic foam impact absorbing structures and multiple structural load-bearing partitions to protect it from impact in all directions. French-fit padding all around the instrument. Closed accessory boxes on long-lasting brass piano hinging for mutes, tuning fork, etc.. Deep quilted padding. 

FORMATS

Asymmetric oblong only. Available for violin, and viola (made to measure).

INTERIOR MATERIALS

Glove-quality leather, finest Italian silk velvet, and satin.
