Spotlight on something unique...

The Ray Chen case (2007)

When Mr. Ray Chen began corresponding with Mr. Musafia on how he wanted his case to be, no-one really had an idea about what it would eventually become. Starting with the Aeternum design, suggestions and ideas went via e-mail across the Atlantic in both directions over a period of a couple months, as the case began to take shape.

The violin was moved 2cm forward to create an impact-absorbing zone in the right-hand area. A third accessory box was created beneath the neck of the instrument while leather, silk velvet and satin were used for the lining with many styling cues from the Enigma. A full array of safety features was added to ensure that the violin would be well-protected in all circumstances, as Mr. Chen often performs outdoors.

Style and function clearly interact very closely in this unique design, from the number of accessory compartments and safety features to the color choices and designs reminiscent of some of Leonardo da Vinci's renaissance creations.
