In 2003 Mr. Musafia designed the original Enigma with the aspiration to be considered the best case in the world, bar none. Symbolically, it was a demonstration what he and his assistants were capable of building, without regard to anything but quality, features, finish and instrument protection.
After the introduction of the Enigma Series 2 in 2010, working tirelessly to perfect this model while keeping at the forefront of innovation, in 2021 Musafia presented the Enigma Series 3.
Gracefully curved interior structural partitions are the major difference comparing the new case to its predecessors, providing a more complex crush resistant structure and even more space for shoulder rests and other accessories. As a result, the main accessory compartment, thanks to a second curved partition now offers a longer storage area and is shaped to accommodate almost all shoulder rests.
Enigma is available in three versions. The Enigma Exclusive, lined in the trademark patterned velvet plush, has almost all the safety and protection options included as standard, as does the Aureum which however is lined in glove-quality Italian leather, velvet plush, and satin. Lastly, the Enigma Leggero is similar to the Exclusive, but optimized for lighter weight by offering the choice of which options to include. The silk velvet, milled in northern Italy with an exclusive pattern designed by Mr. Musafia expressly for this case, is used for the padding while the hard surfaces are lined with coordinated solid-color velvet plush and satin. The Enigma Aureum Series 3 has the interior lined in glove quality leather, monocolor velvet plush and satin. In all versions, the accessory boxes have the bottom lining in Fleur-de-Lys paper, elegant and plasticized to guarantee a long life.
Design and construction
Shell
Revolutionary and exclusive hybrid Kevlar® and wood laminate construction. Continuum High-Tensile™ wood laminate specially milled to 0.1mm tolerances in thickness, up to 6-ply. Inner layers checked for defects via transparency before use. Structure cold-bent to avoid possible warping; lightweight, highly resistant and repairable in case of damage. Internal partitions are load-bearing and structural to increase the overall strength. Monolithic impact absorbing structure created through the use of high-density (28 kg/m3) foam with surface reinforcement cemented to both sides and bottom. Though-bolted zinc-plated steel reinforcements on all viola cases for superior long-term durability. Reinforced hinge and back-pack attachment area. Case shell designed to withstand equalized pressure on the lid equivalent to the weight of an average person.
Cover
Made with military-specification Cordura® nylon, water-and-tear-resistant, and treated with Teflon® to reduce wear and scuffing. Long-lasting YKK zippers, 25mm zipper stitching support, synthetic thread, double-folded edging and upgraded through-bolted strap attachments (instead of sewn-on D-rings) to assure long life. Padding on underside reduces bumps to the instrument when the case is set down. Includes new expandable LieFlat™ music pocket, full-length rain flap and is replaceable.
